WHOOSH! 2.0 Screen Cleaner Kit

My monitors have been driving me crazy for a while now. I hadn’t even realized how bad they had gotten. I think I slowly became accustomed to it. You can’t just use a standard cleaner on a flat screen monitor, because it can damage the device. Here’s how it works:

Flat screen monitors, such as LCDs (Liquid Crystal Displays) and LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes), have sensitive surfaces that can be easily damaged by harsh chemicals found in normal household cleaners. Here’s why:

  1. Sensitive Materials: Flat screen monitors have delicate layers, including glass or plastic screens, liquid crystals, and backlighting. Harsh chemicals can damage these materials, leading to discoloration, scratches, or even malfunction.
  2. Anti-Reflective Coating: Many flat screen monitors have an anti-reflective coating that helps reduce glare and improve visibility. Chemicals in normal cleaners can strip away or damage this coating, affecting the screen’s performance.
  3. Electronics: Unlike traditional CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors, flat screen monitors contain electronic components beneath the surface. Liquids from cleaners can seep into these components and cause electrical shorts or other damage.
  4. Static Electricity: Flat screen monitors can generate static electricity, which attracts dust and dirt. Using cleaners with strong chemicals can exacerbate static buildup, leading to more dust accumulation and potentially damaging static discharges.

Knowing this, I was in the process of looking for a couple new monitors when I came across a few types of “screen cleaners” online. I watched a few reviews on YouTube and did a little research and then decided to give WHOOSH! 2.0 a chance.

After trying out the product, I would say that I’m mostly impressed with it. I have included some before and after photos below. In the after photo, there are still little pieces of lint on the monitor, but that is nothing compared to what it looked like prior to cleaning it. Most of those lint pieces ended up coming off after a couple more attempts to clean it. These monitors hadn’t been cleaned since I purchased them a couple years ago, so I’m not surprised it took a couple attempts to get them looking decent. I will likely have an easier time cleaning them in the future, if I keep up with it from now on, which I will probably do, since I finally found something that seems to do a decent job and makes claims of not being harmful to the device.

Let me know in the comments what you think. It’s not perfect, but it did make a huge difference. I’m not sure if this product has anything that helps reduce the amount of lint on the device. If not, it would be nice for them to add it. I noticed after I cleaned it that dust was already starting to move towards the monitor again. I’m planning on keeping the microfiber cloth handy so I can wipe the monitor off with a dry cloth between cleanings. It appears you can buy the cloths separately, so I might stock up on a couple of those for other uses. The one that came with the product is really nice.
